Túnel de Guajataca
Our property neighbors the historic Túnel de Guajataca, a relic of Puerto Rico’s railway past carved into rugged cliffs above the Atlantic. Built in 1904 by the American Railroad Company to link Playa Guajataca and Playa Mirador, it once carried trains laden with sugar cane through a steel viaduct over canyon walls. It’s truly a remarkable feat of early 20th-century engineering.
Today, it stands as a declared Historical Monument and one of the region’s most atmospheric attractions. On weekends, the area springs to life with artisan vendors, food kiosks, pony rides, miniature train tours, and family-friendly fun. The tunnel is also rumored to be haunted, with whispers of a tragic 1910 derailment adding a layer of intrigue.
Reach the tunnel by car in under ten minutes, or allow us to arrange an unforgettable journey by 4x4, electric bike, or even via kayak, paddleboard, or eFoil down the Guajataca River.
